A 1 February 2007
report in The Australian about Abu Dhabi-based airline
Etihad Airways selecting Sydney (
SYD) as the destination for its first services to Australia also outlines the capacity restrictions contained in the Australia-United Arab Emirates air services arrangements. It seems that non-Dubai-based airlines from the UAE are in effect restricted to seven services per week to Australia. Dubai-based airlines (read
Emirates Airline) are currently entitled to operate 49 services per week.
